About Claire Donnelly

I drink three cups of coffee a day. I’ve tried to quit twice. It didn’t take.

That habit is basically why this site exists. Somewhere around my mid-thirties I looked at a photo of myself and realized my teeth had quietly turned the color of weak tea. So I did what everyone does: I bought whitening strips at the drugstore. They worked, sort of — and they also made my teeth so sensitive I couldn’t drink ice water for a week. Which, for the record, is a ridiculous trade.

That kicked off years of testing whitening kits, powders, pens, oral probiotics, fancy toothpastes, and at least one gadget I’m still embarrassed about. Some of it worked. Most of it didn’t. Almost none of it did what the sales page promised.

Here’s my background, so you know exactly who you’re reading. My mom was a dental hygienist for 30 years — I grew up hearing about plaque and enamel at the dinner table, which is exactly as glamorous as it sounds. As an adult, I spent years running the front desk of a dental office in Tampa. I scheduled the cleanings, processed the insurance, and listened to hundreds of patients ask the same question: “Is there anything cheaper than the $600 in-office whitening?”

And here’s what I’m not: I am not a dentist. Not a hygienist, either. I have no clinical credentials, and I’ll never pretend otherwise. Honestly? Anyone selling you oral care products while playing dentist on the internet is a red flag. What I offer is simpler: I buy these products, I use them for weeks, and I tell you what actually happened — including the parts the brands would rather I skip.

A few house rules I hold myself to:

  • I always publish what I didn’t like. A review with no cons isn’t a review, it’s an ad.
  • If a brand makes a claim I can’t verify, I say so, plainly.
  • Nothing here replaces your dentist. If your gums bleed or something hurts, book the appointment. Please.

Transparency note: some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning I earn a commission if you buy through them — at no extra cost to you. That’s how I keep the coffee flowing. It never changes my rating, and you can read my full disclosure here.
